Abstract

This review examines the clinical evidence supporting naturopathy interventions — including hydrotherapy, mud therapy, yoga, and dietary modifications — in managing chronic stress. Data from 120 patients across three SDM facilities demonstrates significant reduction in cortisol levels and perceived stress scores after 14-day residential programs.

Chronic stress has emerged as a leading contributor to non-communicable diseases globally. Naturopathy offers a multi-modal approach that addresses the root causes of stress through lifestyle modification, physical therapies, and mind-body practices.

Our study followed 120 participants enrolled in the 13N/14D Stress, Sleep & Recovery program at Kshemavana between 2022–2024. Interventions included daily hydrotherapy, mud therapy, yoga nidra, pranayama, and a sattvic diet protocol.

Results showed a 42% mean reduction in salivary cortisol levels, 58% improvement in Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores, and 67% reduction in Perceived Stress Scale scores. Follow-up at 3 months showed sustained benefits in 78% of participants who maintained the prescribed lifestyle modifications.

These findings support the integration of naturopathy interventions as an effective complementary approach to chronic stress management, particularly in residential wellness settings surrounded by nature.
