About This Therapy
What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy derives its name from the Sanskrit root "YUJ" — meaning to yoke or bind — interpreted as the union of individual consciousness with the universal spirit. Rooted in ancient Indian culture, yoga is a physical, mental, spiritual, and therapeutic tradition that offers a comprehensive system for human flourishing. It encompasses bodily postures (asanas), cleansing processes (kriyas and trataka), breath regulation (pranayama), and mindful meditation — each component working synergistically to boost inner health and bring the body and mind into balance and harmony.
At Kshemavana, yoga therapy is practised as a systematic and scientific discipline. Traditional yogic methods are applied with precision and therapeutic intent — tailored to the individual's constitution, health condition, and goals. Whether addressing chronic disease, stress, musculoskeletal imbalance, or the pursuit of deeper self-awareness, our yoga therapy programmes integrate classical wisdom with evidence-based clinical application.

How It Works
Initial assessment - the yoga therapist conducts a thorough intake covering health history, physical limitations, mental and emotional state, and wellness goals to design an individualised programme.
Centring & breathwork - each session opens with grounding pranayama practices to shift awareness inward, regulate the breath, and prepare the body and mind for practice.
Kriya / cleansing practice (if applicable) - targeted shatkarma or trataka techniques are introduced for internal purification, digestive health, or concentration as needed.
Asana sequence - a therapeutic sequence of postures is practised with attention to alignment, breath, and sensation — progressing from gentle to more active based on the individual's capacity.
Pranayama deepening - advanced breath techniques (nadi shodhana, bhramari, kapalabhati) are layered in to address specific physiological or psychological imbalances.
Meditation & yoga nidra - the active phase transitions into mindful meditation or guided yoga nidra (yogic sleep) for deep restoration and nervous system integration.
Closing & home practice - the therapist reviews observations from the session, provides a personalised home practice plan, and offers lifestyle and dietary guidance aligned with yogic principles.
